Hampton University Announces Two New Interim Dean Positions

HAMPTON, Va. – (September 16, 2020) – Hampton University is pleased to announce two new Interim Dean positions. Dr. Isi Ero-Tolliver is the new Interim Dean of the School of Science, and Dr. Sylvia Rose is the new Interim Dean of the James T. George School of Business. Both appointments begin immediately.

“We are very excited to announce the appointments of Drs. Isi Ero-Tolliver and Sylvia Rose as Interim Deans of their respective schools. They both have stepped into their new roles with great energy and the drive to uphold THE Standard of Excellence by promoting learning, the building of character and preparing students to be leaders,” said Hampton University President, Dr. William R. Harvey.

Dr. Isi Ero-Tolliver

Dr. Ero-Tolliver earned a B.S. in Biology at Jackson State University. She completed her M.S. at Jackson State University and her thesis research in the Life Sciences Division at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. She attained her Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Studies in Biological Sciences and Science Education at Vanderbilt University, where she stayed to complete her post-doctoral training in the Department of Medicine. Dr. Ero-Tolliver was an Associate Professor of Biological Sciences at Hampton University before taking on this new position.

“I’m very excited to be charged with this position. I am going to focus on institutional leadership, instructional leadership and fiscal management and responsibility for the School of Science. Hampton University and our department was built on a great foundation and I want to continue to build on that. I believe I can do it,” said Dr. Ero-Tolliver. “I have a great support system and we are working together for our common goal to keep Hampton University one of the top HBCUs in the nation to produce the best and brightest students.”

Dr. Ero-Tolliver has authored and co-authored papers in peer-reviewed science and education journals that include Journal of Biological Chemistry, Nature Chemical Biology, Journal of Cell Biology and Journal of Research in Science Education. She is also the PI of the National Science Foundation Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program, Co-PI of the NSF CURENet2 Mobile and the Co-PI of the DoD Center of Excellence in STEM Scholars Program.

Dr. Sylvia W. Rose Esq.

Dr. Rose earned a B.S. in Finance from Hampton University, class of 1981. She has a Juris Doctor of Law from Georgetown University with Business and Corporate Law as minor fields of study. Dr. Rose was a Certified and Licensed Financial Advisor and an Attorney at Law in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Dr. Rose was the Assistant Dean and Assistant Professor of Finance in the School of Business at Hampton University before taking on this new position. She is also a former General Counsel for Hampton University and a member of the Virginia State Bar.

“I am extremely honored and privileged to continue to serve my Alma Mater in this capacity. I will continue to do all that I can to promote THE Standard of Excellence in the James T. George School of Business, as we strive to prepare our students to be ‘Industry Ready’ in their chosen careers on day one,” said Dr. Rose. “With a supportive team of faculty members and staff, we will continue to focus on working with our Corporate Partners, Advisory Board and Alumni to provide amazing internship and full-time opportunities for our very talented and gifted students.”

Dr. Rose is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and has served as the on campus Collegiate Advisor for the Sorority for 10 years. She is involved in numerous community activities. While at the JTG School of Business, she was a member of the Minority Retirement and Security Grant Team that was funded for a $500,000 grant that allowed the team to provide Financial Literacy Workshops in the community for five years. She has also co-authored financial literacy articles in the Journal of Business and Finance Research. 

Hampton University Chancellor and Provost, Dr. JoAnn W. Haysbert, is excited about working with both of these Interim Deans. “I am eager to work with Drs. Sylvia Rose and Isi Ero-Tolliver. They are both talented junior faculty that have stepped into the deanship with energy and excitement about the opportunities embedded in our new reality in academic affairs. Their expertise makes them well-suited for their new roles,” Dr. Haysbert said.
