ENDOWMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Endowed Scholarship for Students

An endowed scholarship is one established by a donor and invested with the college’s endowment. The fund is awarded in perpetuity, with only the interest accrued in a given year spent, not the principal. Endowment income for undergraduate student support ensures a superior education for talented, deserving students. Scholarships may be awarded on the basis of financial need, academic merit or both.

Endowed Deanship, Endowed Chairship

An endowed deanship provides discretionary funding to support the strategic direction of the school. An endowed chairship does the same at the department level. It is not restricted to a particular effort, program or research, and provides significant flexibility in fulfilling the collective mission of the School.  Endowments such as this empower Hampton to attract and retain the finest faculty and academic leaders and support their work as teachers, scholars, and researchers, in perpetuity, ensuring that some of the world’s brightest minds can accomplish the extraordinary.

Endowed Lectureship

Endowed funds for lectures and colloquia facilitate the sharing and dissemination of research and information among members of the academic community. Such funding can provide needed resources for travel, honoraria and guest lectureships from renowned leaders and academics locally, nationally and globally.

Endowed Professorship for Faculty

This endowment enables faculty to conduct innovative research, explore new academic fields, apply new technologies, and develop new teaching methods even if funding is not readily available from other sources, including tuition, gifts, or grants.

Graduate Fellowship Endowment for Students

Graduate fellowship endowments help to fund graduate students’ tuition and fees, enable Hampton to attract promising scholars, and indirectly bears on the University’s ability to recruit and retain top faculty.

Library Endowed

The Harvey Library Endowment Fund would allow the library to continue as a premier information resource for University and community users. The fund would provide a lasting source of income that advances the existing collections, offsets escalating costs of essential books, periodicals and other materials, and ensures the timely and ongoing acquisition of electronic materials and information technologies.

Maintenance Endowment

This endowment fund provides support for projected maintenance needs.

Naming Opportunities Endowment

Naming Opportunities in the form of endowments also are available, which are established in perpetuity once fully funded. They include opportunities for naming buildings, conference rooms, laboratories, classrooms, faculty offices, and many other spaces.

Each sponsored/named seat will be identified with a small placard on the end or back of the respective seats. This gift is in perpetuity. For more information, contact the Office of Advancement & External Engagement at 757.727.5356.
